The attachment method affects whether there will be wrinkles or not. Some flooring materials expand and shrink a fair bit with temperature. It was still in good shape when I pulled some of it up 2 years later. I used carpet tape to hold some rigid foam to my subfloor. I considered smashing some of the "positive" ribs in the floor down to be flat or negative where I spend the most time standing, but was afraid to flake off undercoating and cause long term problems. I elected to keep the variation because the extra space makes an important difference in headroom. As we all know, the floor is not perfectly flat, so the adhesive should be able to stick the materials together over small bumps. What about an adhesive instead of double sided tape? Something that will stand up to lots of flooding and heat without smelly and/or unhealthy fumes. In my case, the two layers of floor could effectively become one piece after the taping or gluing, maintaining easy removal, which is important. trying to cut the whole floor from one large piece, but I'm concerned about ugly and variable gaps between tiles, especially over time.

The tile approach would be easier (and cheaper) to build vs. Looking for cheaper but similar options on ebay, I came across this auction I would like to add a higher end material on top, probably something from here It's good for noise, but not very exciting to look at, and not very comfortable to kneel on due to the pebbled surface.
